ratio

Tue., Feb. 14, 5-11 pm: Loveless Sour Raspberry Dark Saison Bottle Release Party at Ratio Beerworks (2920 Larimer St, Denver)

Our greatest achievements are often those that require the greatest toil. Blend one part passion, one part craftsmanship, a touch of good fortune, and great determination. This is the beauty that exists only through lonely dedication in the creative dark.
Meet Loveless, our Dark Sour Saison, barrel-fermented with saison yeast and our house sour culture for 12 months, then re-fermented in red wine barrels with fresh raspberries for another three months.
With each barrel yielding varying characteristics, Loveless was carefully blended to impart balanced tartness, tied together by a vibrant raspberry finish. As with any labor of love, this endeavor involved both radiant highs and loveless lows, but the end result yielded a most brilliant triumph.
Brewed to celebrate Ratio’s 2nd Anniversary, Loveless will be released on Tuesday, February 14th at 5pm in the 750ML champagne bottle format. Bottles are limited, so get here early.

epic

Epic Black Friday at Epic Brewing – Denver

For Black Friday ths year Epic is celebrating with two great specials.
First, we could not think of anything better to put on special then one of our newest darkest beers the “Big Bad Baptista!” Big Bad Baptista is inspired by traditional Mexican coffee, Café de Olla, which is served with cinnamon and piloncillo, an unrefined sugar. The Cinnamon adds another layer of complexity and accentuates the earthy character of Mexican Coffee.
So on Black Friday we will be tapping a special frikin of Baptista with Bacon and Smoked Sea Salt. We will tap this Firkin at 12pm.
Second, we will also be releasing a very limited amount of our newest beer in our Oak & Orchard series “Sour Pineapple.” We will have a extremely limited amount on tap as well. Sales will begin at 12pm.
The intense and complex sour character of this beer is developed in oak Foeders containing select cultures of Lactobacillus, Pediococcus and wild yeast. The process is slow and delicate, regularly taking a year or more. Once our brewers have decided it’s ready, we blend the soured beer into hand-selected oak barrels with fresh pineapple puree, where it undergoes additional sour fermentation and aging. You are holding our Brewmaster’s selected blend of those barrels. We took our time crafting this beer, and we hope you’ll take yours enjoying it.
See you this Friday!

fresh-hop

Sat., Oct. 1, 1-4 p.m.: 11th Annual Fresh Hop Fest at The Future Home of Brewery Liberati (2403 Champa St., Denver).

The beer-centric minds of the Colorado Brewers Guild, Falling Rock Tap House, and Two Parts have done it again! We present to you: The 11th Annual Falling Rock Fresh Hop Festival!
This year’s event has landed in a new and improved location—the old Golden Bell Press building, and the future home of Liberati Brewing is located just a few blocks from Falling Rock. This event showcases a medley of fresh hopped beers created by breweries from across the country. The majority of beers will come from the greater Colorado area, but some out-of-state guests will grace us with their presence as well!
What in the heck is a fresh hopped beer? Here’s the timeline… Hops growers have about 24 hours to get the hops from the farm to the brewery’s drying kiln before they start showing signs of spoilage. But if these hops are utilized within that 24-hour window, then eureka, we’ve got ourselves one heck of a beer! These beers are exciting because each one is different, all have varied levels of hoppy flavor, and are super exclusive due to the fresh hop process. Don’t miss out!
Ticket includes entry to the event, unlimited libations, and a commemorative glass. Trust us when we say it will be worth every penny. Buy now and save. At door prices will increase by five dollars (if any tickets remain)…

jax

Wed., Oct. 5, 4 p.m.: Jax LoDo pre-GABF party featuring Bad Mutha’ Shucka at Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar LoDo (1539 17th St., Denver).

Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and happy hour runs 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar LoDo will be the official GABF headquarters for The Post Brewing Company. On Wed., October 5, the day before the festival kicks off, Jax LoDo will host a pre-GABF party with a special tapping of Cask-Conditioned, Dry-Hopped Bad Mutha’ Shucka. Weighing in at 5.75% ABV, this amber ale is dripping in citrus and tropical fruit aromas supported by a classic, full malt flavor. It was brewed from American 2-row barley malt, Munich malt and two types of crystal malt for a rich and satisfying malt profile. The beer was hopped with a blend of Cascade, Willamette and Azacca hops resulting in a distinctly fruity, American hop aroma and flavor. And while no oysters were harmed in the making of Bad Mutha’ Shucka, it pairs exceptionally well with a dozen on the half-shell.
This one-of-a-kind firkin will offer beer fans a different drinking experience. Similar to the cask-conditioned ales that fill beer halls across Europe, this batch of Bad Mutha’ Shucka was put into the cask immediately after the initial brew, at which point an enormous amount of dry hops was added. And until it is tapped, no one will know what it tastes like!
Jax LoDo will feature five additional Post Brewing Co. beers on October 5, and Brewmaster Bryan Selders himself will be in-house to tap the firkin, answer questions about cask beer and beer in general, and throw back a pint or two. Complimentary snacks will be provided, and guests drinking POST beer can enjoy $1.50 oysters all night long. Also, anyone drinking from the firkin will get a chance to win a $100 Big Red F gift card.

Sat., Mar. 25, 6:30 p.m.: Crowdtasting: The Science of Beer and Food Pairings at Denver Museum of Nature & Science (2001 Colorado Blvd., Denver).

Option 1: Begin your evening with entry to Chocolate: The Exhibition followed by a tasting and voting session at 7:45 p.m.
Love beer and food? So do we, but the science behind why we find certain pairings so satisfying isn’t clear. Sign up to be a part of a pilot taste test led by Dr. Nicole Garneau, Museum curator and taste expert, and her partners from the American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC), the Brewer’s Association, and Cicerone. You and your fellow beer nerds, citizen scientists, and foodies participate in tastings designed by the Museum’s culinary team and in return, give feedback on your experience to inform future scientific studies.
Following the tasting, hear the voting results and what it might mean about the science of taste. Includes beer tastings, hors d’oeuvres, and admission to Chocolate: The Exhibition.
We are conducting a taste test, so please plan ahead and try not to eat or drink anything but water for 2 hours before your tasting and voting session.
The Beer & Food Working Group is an interdisciplinary group of scientists, brewing experts, and industry veterans:
Ray Daniels: Creator of the Cicerone program and former BA Craft Beer Program Director/Brewers Publications Manager
Pat Fahey: Content Manager-Cicerone Certification Program and Master Cicerone
Nicole Garneau, PhD: Director of the Genetics of Taste Lab at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and ASBC Sensory Sub-Committee Member
