It’s not often I blog about an establishment that isn’t a brewery, or at least a beer bar with a huge selection of craft beer. And it’s not usual at all that I share my experience at a “chain.” But I recently visited Fado Denver for the first time in years, and it was quite enjoyable.
For me, Fado’s main attraction is the place itself. I love the look and feel of an Irish pub: the old wood, the fireplace, the overall comfortable, homey feel. But I almost never hang out in them, as it’s rare that I can get a craft beer and–especially–a meatless meal. Traditional Irish fare isn’t so vegetarian friendly; I understand that, and it’s fine. But it does limit my ability to frequent Irish pubs. Or so I thought, until I went to Fado.
Denver’s Fado has a few different Odell beers on tap, including my favorite, Odell IPA. They also pour their 90 Schilling and Easy Street Wheat (both of which are on happy hour special: $10 bottomless pints M-F from 5-8). They also carry Great Divide‘s Titan IPA in bottles. So I was pleased I could get one of my beloved IPAs at an Irish pub.
For an appetizer I started with the Cheese Dip and Wedges. A simple yet delicious dip that I could easily see myself getting addicted to: a creamy blend of cheddar, pepper jack cheese and green onion served with boxty wedges for dipping. That’s good stuff right there. And while there isn’t a lot to choose from for a vegetarian entree, I found the sandwich of roasted red pepper, basil & provolone panini on flatbread to be very tasty. Usually served with soup, I substituted cole slaw (yum!) instead, as their soup of the day was chicken noodle. I was also interested in the Chickpea Salad as well as the Pear and Bleu Cheese Salad, which I will try in the future. But I had to save room for dessert, because this particular dessert cannot be missed. They have a Black and Tan Brownie with Guinness Ice Cream. And yes–it’s as wonderful as it sounds.
I had a nice time at Fado and was glad I paid them a visit. It had been many years since I was last there for drinks. And now I know I can always get an IPA and a great meal or snack that meets my dietary needs. I will definitely be back soon!
