Last Saturday, March 4th, I attended the first ever Day of Dorks beer festival at Wynkoop Brewing. Day of Dorks was a fun celebration of beer—an event where beer nerds could geek out over all the righteous brews and chat with those who used their scientific know-how to create them. Some 30 local breweries were present (with one absent) to pour their geekiest beers for excited attendees.
The brewery was decked out in dorkiness: taped spectacles, “beaker” tasting glasses, nerdy movies, and snacks such as Smarties, Dum Dums, and Nerds. And pool tables full of school supplies, for a very good cause. Day of Dorks held a supply drive to help out two Denver high-needs schools, Cheltenham Elementary and Dora Moore, K-8. So many people contributed! It was wonderful to see the piles continue to grow.
I sampled numerous tasty beers at Day of Dorks. There was a wide variety available; I tried some IPAs, stouts, mead, saisons, sours, doppelbocks, and more. Apparently I was in a “dark” mood that day, as all of my favorites were stouts!
***My top 3 picks from the fest***
Ginny Girl Stout from Beryl’s Beer Co, an 11.8% stout aged in gin barrels
Erin & James’ Breakfast Stout from Colorado Plus Brew Pub
Social Club Coffee Milk Stout from The Brew on Broadway (The BOB)
Day of Dorks was an awesome, entertaining way to spend an afternoon. Great beer, good people, fun times. Check out the list of all the excellent local breweries who participated. And let’s hope for a Day of Dorks 2018!
