WHOOdell Brewing Co.

WHATCloud Catcher Milkshake IPA (6.8% ABV)

WHEN & WHERE: Available now through December in 6-pack 12 ounce cans across Odell’s 18-state distribution footprint (Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Utah).

ABOUT: A bit of info from Odell: Our fabled Cloud Catcher roams the sunset, sweeping up every stray Cumulonimbus. She has one mission: to capture the key ingredient to our hazy, smooth Milkshake IPA. Hop-forward with notes of creamsicle and peach, it delivers a citrus-like burst alongside its velvety texture. Her risk is your delicious reward.

MY THOUGHTSOne of the most prominent characteristics of Cloud Catcher is the smooth, velvety mouthfeel, which they accomplished by adding lactose during the brewing process. I’ve always been a fan of lactose in beer for this very reason, and Odell really hit the mark with this one—that’s for sure. Most of my experience with beers containing lactose have been stouts, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. Another distinct difference of Cloud Catcher is that, unlike most Milkshake IPAs, this beer does not contain any additives (such as fruit) but instead simply dialed in on the combination of four varieties of double dry-hops (Galaxy, Cashmere, Azzaca, and Citra) to achieve the juiciness that is evident in every sip of this resinous, smooth IPA.

It’s only here until December, so be sure to “catch” this limited release while you can. Check your local liquor store, or search with Odell’s Beer Finder to help you find what you’re looking for.
