GABF Week Events 2014

It’s almost my favorite time of year again: GABF week! The Great American Beer Festival is something to get very excited about. But even for those not attending the festival, there are endless other great beer events going on before, during and after it. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been reading about dozens of upcoming tappings, dinners, and more, and there are too many to keep track of. However, there are several that stood out to me, and I would like to pass along my picks to you.

I decided to keep it to Denver-based events only, though there are plenty of other happenings in Boulder, Ft. Collins, and other surrounding areas.

My top picks:

Euclid Hall held a series of beer dinners during September with one more happening on 9/25 with Trve. And of course their annual midnight beer breakfast with Avery Brewing on 10/2.

9/28 1400 Miles Denver Finale Party

9/29 Annual GABF Tapping Party at Falling Rock

9/30 Beerfest at Paramount Cafe

9/30 Vegan Beer Dinner at Sputnik with Baere Brewing

10/2 Trve Brewing’s GABF Kickoff Show at Summit Music Hall

10/2 What the Funk!? CBC Denver 2014 (sold out)

10/2 Epic Brewing‘s 50 Firkin Fiasco

10/3 Beers Made by Walking Festival

10/3 Denver Rare Beer Tasting VI

Freshcraft has a bunch of special tappings:

  • 9/29 Breckenridge Brewery
  • 9/30 New Belgium
  • 10/1 Upslope
  • 10/2 Elevation, Cigar City, Ska
  • 10/3 Stone, Green Flash, Odell, Boulevard
  • 10/4 Surly, Firestone Walker

Falling Rock also just put out their full list of events that include tappings from more than a couple dozen excellent breweries. Take a look at what all they are doing!

Again, there are numerous other beer events that will be going on in the area the week of September 28th-October 5th. These are just the ones that are particularly interesting to me. I hope you all get out there and enjoy some of these wonderful events!

Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp Across America

This summer Sierra Nevada is releasing an exciting new 12-pack of collaboration beers brewed with some of America’s best breweries: Allagash, Ballast Point, Bell’s, Cigar City, Firestone Walker, New Glarus, NinkasiOskar Blues, Russian River, 3 Floyds and Victory, plus a beer from the Asheville Brewers Alliance. And, as if this concept isn’t already unique, this variety pack is the first to contain both bottles and cans. Look for it on the shelves mid-July. To celebrate this release, Sierra Nevada is taking a road trip across the country with what is sure to be one of the best festivals ever!

There will be seven stops on the tour, from mid-July to early August. The brewers who are part of the collaborations will join selective legs of the festival tour, and there will be countless other craft breweries at each event as well. In fact, Sierra Nevada invited every craft brewery in America (2800 of them!) to attend and pour their beer on one of the seven stops. To date there are approximately 700 who have signed up, and they are anticipating more than 1,300 total craft beers on tap, collectively representing almost every state in the union. Beer Camp Across America promises to be the largest craft beer celebration in history.

Over 80 Colorado breweries have signed on to take part in the historic event. The following will be at the Rocky Mountain edition taking place July 25 at Civic Center Park in Denver:

Great American Beer Festival 2012: Highlights

Thanks to some of my wonderful followers I was able to get a lot of superb suggestions on breweries to visit during GABF.  Specifically I needed help with those East of the Mississippi River, as many of them don’t make their way out to Colorado.  If you told me to go see a brewery at the festival, I probably did; I got to most of them but I’m sure I missed a few.  If you don’t see that brewery on my list, it just means it wasn’t one of my overall favorites.  But that’s o.k.; I appreciate every bit of the input and had a fantastic time sampling them all.  Below are some of the most memorable brews I tasted.

Midwest Region

Pacific Northwest

I am doing one more post about GABF, focusing on a few of the absolute best ones I tried. All of the above were wonderful brews, but I’d like to specifically point out a few more beers/breweries that I feel deserve special attention.

I had such a great time at GABF. Thanks for all your suggestions, and thanks for reading!

Cigar City comes to Denver!

I am really looking forward to Cigar City Brewing tap takeover tonight at Star Bar Denver.  According to Star Bar’s site, the beers will be:  Jai Alai IPA, Big Sound Scotch Ale, Florida Cracker White Ale, Vanilla Maduro, and Mango Habanero Red Ale.  I’ll definitely be trying the IPA and Mango Habanero Red.  So nice to have access to some of Florida’s finest brews in Denver!
