Not only do I enjoy drinking beer, I also really love to cook with it. I recently got a copy of a wonderful new cookbook, The Craft Beer Cookbook: From IPAs and Bocks to Pilsners and Porters, 100 Artisanal Recipes for Cooking with Beer, by Jacqueline Dodd.
This is definitely a must-have for anyone who likes cooking with beer. It is filled with tasty dishes for breakfast, dinner, dessert, and then some. And, as its title says, the recipes use all different types of beer: IPAs, porters, pale ales, red ales, stouts, wheats, and more.
There are recipes for any time of the year as well as somewhat seasonal ones too. Now that fall is here and winter is on its way, here are some that are tempting to try:
- Smoky Beer Mac and Cheese
- Pumpkin IPA Scones
- Beer Cheese Gratin Potatoes
- White Bean and Beer Chicken Chili
- Butternut Squash Bisque with Goat Cheese and Pomegranate
- Steak with Stout Portobello Mushroom Sauce
- Chocolate Chip and Smoked Porter Pancakes
- Chocolate, Bacon, and Porter Muffins
- Pale Ale Caprese Pizza
- Pilsner Coconut Curry Shrimp Soup
This book also contains many excellent sauce recipes, including my favorite: Foolproof Beer Cheese Sauce. I can get a little crazy with it and wind up putting it on everything! It’s just that good. And, just in case your mouth isn’t watering yet, check out this photo of Chocolate Stout Ice Cream with Pretzels.
Whether you’re in the mood for a snack, a full meal, dessert, or anything else, you’re sure to find what you’ll need for an amazing beer dish right here in The Craft Beer Cookbook. There are dozens of recipes on my “to-do” list so far, and I am excited to make–and eat–them all.
The holiday season will be here soon, and this book would make the perfect gift for that person on your list who loves good beer and likes cooking with it. And you never know…maybe you’ll be lucky enough to have them make one of these delightful dishes just for you.
